Square of the Roots is a Midwestern string band playing original acoustic Americana and Honky-Tonk music with all the smoothness of a well-aged bourbon.

 

Essential to their sound is the bond between father and son, Mike and Brian Steinhauer, who have been in cahoots for 20-years or so of playing music and harmonizing together. With dobro, mandolin, and harmonica this dynamic duo have entertained many camp fire crowds and back porch pickin' parties.

 

More recently they have augmented their sound with acoustic guitar, string bass, and percussion, collaborating with musicians in Springfield, Illinois. This creative push has led to the recording of a Square of the Roots album soon to be released.

 

Musically tight and ready to rip, these Squares perform with all the drive of a ragtime band meshed with the best of the singer/songwriters of country and folk rock. Get a taste of bluegrass with a soaring mandolin or guitar solo; feel the sweet melancholy of a bluesy slide solo on the dobro. Square of the Roots delivers it all in righteous fashion.
